Getting comfortable enough to fall asleep or stay asleep when you have hemorrhoids can be a nightmare. Sleeping on your stomach may provide some relief because the pressure is off the tender area. Some people just can’t sleep on their stomach, so it’s advisable to use pillows to get comfortable. Lie on your back and prop up your knees with a pillow or a tool designed to prop your legs during sleep. Keeping your legs elevated reduces pressure on your hemorrhoids, and it also reduces the gravitational pull you experience when walking or standing. Keeping your legs elevated with pillows also reduces inflammation in the veins. This helps the pain, and the hemorrhoid, go away quicker and help you get some rest.
Though lying down is uncomfortable, sitting down is much more uncomfortable when you have hemorrhoids. When possible, lie down instead of sitting to get relief and help them heal.
Fortunately I can sleep quite well on my stomach. But I can see where this can be an issue – especially for back sleepers.
I’ve heard some say putting pillows under both hips, elevating the pelvis, helps.
Great advice on a topic not too many people even consider when they have hemorrhoids.
